Day 1: Fes: Exploring the Imperial City and medieval Medina
Immerse yourself in the rich history and medieval allure of Fes, the oldest among Morocco's imperial cities. As a UNESCO protected site, Fes retains its authentic character with minimal colonial influence, allowing you to step back in time and experience its enchanting medieval charm. Explore the labyrinthine streets of the two ancient medina quarters, Fes el Bali and Fes el Jdid, alongside the French-designed Ville Nouvelle. Let your guide lead you through the bustling souks offering a myriad of treasures, from spices to leather goods.
Witness the renowned Chouara Tannery, ascend to a rooftop for a panoramic view, visit the exquisite Al Attarine Madrasa, and marvel at the historic Al-Qarawiyyin University. Delve into the mellah in Fes el Jdid for a comprehensive glimpse into the city's diverse heritage. Experience the magic of Fes as you traverse its storied streets and uncover hidden gems around every corner.
Day 2: Over the Middle Atlas and into the desert: Erfoud, Merzouga, and the Sahara
Over the Middle Atlas, continue south. When you drive to Midelt, the “apple city,” for lunch, you’ll witness Barbary macaque monkey families in the trees and along the road. Enjoy the Moulouya River and apple orchards. Next, cross the Tizi n’Talremt pass into the Ziz Valley’s oasis and palm trees. In Erfoud, the Sahara sand dunes begin to appear. Merchants erected several ksars to preserve their goods. Winds move the dunes. You may meet a nomadic Berber household and enjoy tea together. Visit Erfoud to see how its miners turn fossil-rich rock into colorful and useful items. Erg Chebbi’s vast sand dunes await.
After Merzouga, slow down for a camel ride into the dunes to camp before dusk. Climb the closest sand dune to see the sunset over the massive dunes. Return to camp for supper and a night of Berber music around the campfire. Sleep in a Bedouin tent.
Day 3 : Merzouga – Berber Families – Black Desert – Merzouga (Camel Ride & Night in Sahara)
After breakfast in the hotel you’ll start your exploitative journey of the area, visiting the ‘village of the blacks’, originally slaves from Sudan to experience their music and lifestyle. Not far away there’s the lake of Merzouga, with its bird populations, including flamingos. You may also like to visit the nomad warehouse where many Berber handicrafts are priced lower than in the big cities. On the afternoon you will mount your camel, guided by an experienced Camel man, to explore inside the mysterious sand-sea of the Erg-Chebbi. Here you’ll spend your first night under the stars, or if you prefer, in a traditional Berber nomad tent. Dinner will be served in the tent where you will spend the night. Dinner Bed and Breakfast.
Day 4 : Merzouga –Errachidia – Midelt – Azrou – Ifran – Fes
After seeing the sunrise in the desert, we go back on camels to Merzouga. After breakfast, shower in the Hotel then starts our journey to Midelt, passing through Errachidia and the spectacular Ziz Valley. Then we stop for lunch in Midalt, we keep going through Azrou to stop and wander around the fabulous forest surrounded with monkeys, we stop as well in Ifran to pay a visit to the Switzerland of Morocco Ifran to take pictures then we head back Again To Fes for the night at the Riad.
Day 5: Roman ruins at Volubilis and imperial cities of Meknes
Early risers will enjoy photographing vacant, scenic streets. Day travel from Fes to Meknes with your driver. Visit UNESCO-protected Volubilis. The 3rd-century BCE structure was abandoned approximately 1,000 years later. It flourished in one of the Roman Empire’s most isolated regions. Meknes—a good method to prepare for the majestic middle-aged and Imperial city. The Ville Impériale and navigable medina are Meknes’ primary attractions. Fortified city-within-a-city with palaces, mosques, prisons, and gardens. The dungeons, royal stables, and Moulay Ismael Mausoleum—one of the few sacred locations non-Muslims may enter—are the highlights.
Day 6: Departure
Depending on your flight details, you may wish to wander around, consider the Merindis Tombs, the extensive view of the Old Medina. Or, stick closer to Bab Boujloud and visit the Jnan Sbil Garden, the Melah. If time allows, take a respite in Café Clock before transferring to the airport for your return flight home.
